Pandemic Week 130-131: Mom Goes to Ohio

After lots of tests and paperwork, Grandma finally got her shoulder replacement surgery scheduled for September 6.  Given that she was going to be without her right arm (and she is right-handed), Theresa went out to assist.  This turned into a two-week trip (fortunately she could telework from Ohio) and the longest she has stayed with her parents since college.  The good news is that Grandma is doing well and progressing on scheduled.  There were several notable events/lessons learned from the two weeks from all parties involved.

From Grandma & Grandpa

  • Their house will smell like garlic for weeks to come because most things Theresa cooked involved garlic.
  • Theresa definitely buys more at the grocery store
  • There is much more space in the refrigerator and cupboards now (more on that one)
  • It is unclear what her job is, but she was locked in her room all day on the computer for work.
  • There are some really good recipes in the Taste of Home Magazines

From Theresa

  • Don't ever call the main phone number as it causes Grandpa to go into a rage when the phone rings due to telemarketers.
  • Don't use the kitchen trash can.  It is a decorative ornament. Individual trash should be carried to the garage.
  • You should do laundry every day.
  • There are many historical food items in the refrigerator and cupboards (they are now greatly reduced after some removal of expired items)

In addition to the lessons learned, Theresa enjoyed the nice weather and morning walks downtown to a really great local coffee shop.  She also stopped by the economic development office to hear about work going on in the community and was able to attend the Flat Rock Festival.  There were lots of walks and bike rides and she was able to catch up with classmates at her 30th high school reunion.

As for Joe and Anna, they held things down on the home front.  The biggest challenge was Storm, who was rather lost with one member of the family gone (let's just say they gave him some anxiety medicine).

It was nice to spend time in Paulding but also nice to be back in Virginia.  Fingers crossed that Grandma has good luck with physical therapy and continues to progress!
