The Final Big Jam for Anna

After the show
The senior "finals" have begun, and the first one was the Big Jam with Vienna Jammers on April 20. This is their largest concert and fundraiser of the year and was held at a fantastic venue - Capitol One Hall (here is the program).  Mrs. Latimer joined in for the outing and our neighbors, the Fitzellas, were ushering at the event so the group had a quite a neighborhood following.

Seniors:  Ryland, Sophia, Lori, Max & Anna
Anna has been a member of the Vienna Jammers since fourth grade - starting on marimba and moving up to steel pan drums in junior high and high school.  This has easily been her favorite activity and when the group performs you can see why.  They practice once a week; it is low stress and just a happy place to be.  The show featured guest artist Yasmin Williams, an incredible guitarist who played with all of the ensembles.  Theresa got to perform with her adult group, Jammers Gold (they even have t-shirts) with the kids cheering them on from the wings while they played "Teenage Wasted."  The grand finale of the show was an audience dance number, which had the whole place rocking.  Stay tuned for links to videos.

Anna and the other four seniors did a special appearance in costume playing the theme from Super Mario Brothers (they put that together in two days).  All of the seniors were recognized and received their official Vienna Jammers Sweatshirt with their nickname emblazoned on the sleeve (every kid gets a Jammer nickname when they start, and Anna was christened "Four Seasons."  You will need to ask her the story.

Anna has a couple more Jammers show, including the Vienna Mayor's volunteer reception held this past Tuesday and the upcoming Memorial Day show as part of the "Viva Vienna" festival.  A big thanks to David Reynolds, the founder and director of the Vienna Jammers for creating such a wonderful environment for the kids.  It is truly a happy place, and we are all better for having been a part of it.
