Theresa Marks a Half Century....and a Choir Concert

Theresa celebrated her 50th birthday on March 1.  This is a major milestone for several reasons (eligibility for AARP, a new box to check for "age range" on questionnaires, eligibility for early retirement if she works at a Federal agency that offers the option).  Rather than a big party, she opted for a series of things she enjoys doing (and is happy to still be able to do).  Here are some of the highlights:

  • The festivities kicked off a couple of weeks before when she convinced her friend Joy to go roller skating.  As luck would have it, on Sunday nights it is adult only and retro music (80s and 90s).  That was fun - and no one was injured.
  • The Sunday before, she met up with her friends Pauletta, Kristy, Klara, Joy and Trisha for an afternoon at a Rage Room.  This is where you get to play loud music (bring on the 80s tunes) and break things.  Plates, glasses, computer monitors, an organ.  They provide ball bats and sledge hammers or you can just throw things against the wall.  It is very therapeutic.  You learn a lot about your friends in this activity.  Theresa learned that if she is in a street fight, she definitely wants to be with Kristy.  This activity was followed by dinner at IHOP, although no one was old enough for a senior discount.
  • Each day of the week, a new package from Amazon arrived with various old lady gifts, courtesy of Theresa's brothers.  They have thoughtfully prepared their sister for her senior years.

  • The actual birthday was spent with a full day working (thanks to Congress for its inability to pass budgets on time).  Joe and Anna took Theresa out for Thai food and Joe picked up a delicious cake from a local bakery.
  • Saturday Theresa headed for Ohio for a long weekend with her families.  Tim and Aidyn joined Grandma and Grandpa for a meet up for a March birthday lunch (Grandpa has a birthday coming up March 14.

Theresa made it back in time for Anna's choir concert on March 5.  This was a rogue concert as the school was closed for the election (it was primary day), but the choir performed at 7:30 after the polls closed.  Each year the choirs must go through a state assessment and they always do a concert before the review.  The Madison Madrigals performance Ain'a That Good NewsDanny Boyand Wipip!  Pieces are picked for complexity to showcase the musical abilities.  During the actual review, which was held March 8, the choirs also must do sight reading.  We are still waiting for the results, but in the meantime enjoyed the concert.

The next big event for the choir is a trip to Nashville this week.  Stay tuned for Anna's musical adventures.
