Frozen in so Many Ways....and a Birthday

Birthday Pizza
After a two-year drought of snow in the Washington, DC area, winter returned in force this week with not one but two storms.  It is ironic that Anna and Theresa went to see the musical Frozen before the first storm hit.  In between storms, Joe celebrated his birthday and Anna got a couple of extra days off school.  Here are the highlights:

Anna and Theresa went to see Frozen at the Kennedy Center on January 14.  It was an amazing production!  A large part of the entertainment was all of the little girls dressed in their princess attire in attendance.  They were SO excited - including the super fan 6-year-old in front of us who was singing all of the songs.  It was noted that Anna was also singing, albeit a bit more subtly than the elementary school crowd.  The show was a good reminder that you are never too old to enjoy a Disney show.

The first winter storm hit on Monday afternoon and ultimately dropped 5 inches (more than expected).  Given the lack of snow the previous two years, there are several new drivers with no experience driving in snow and ice, including Anna.  She got separate lessons from her parents.  Joe took her to the church parking lot on Tuesday only to discover that the newer cars have better safety features (we think he was going to teach her to do doughnuts, but the car prevented that one).  Benny was happy to play in the snow but not so happy about the old dog coat Theresa put on him (it was really cold).  Anna briefly hit the sled hill with her friends as they tried to time it after all the little kids left.  All in all, it was a good snow day.

Shoveling after Storm #2
Joe celebrated his birthday on Thursday with an outing to a local Neapolitan pizza place.  We enjoyed some delicious pizza followed by an ice cream cake at home.  An added bonus was the announcement that school would be closed the next day due to an incoming winter storm, putting Anna in an extra celebratory mood.

Friday marked the second winter storm of the week and another 5 inches along with some bitter cold.  This time, Benny had a new coat to wear that he was much happier about.  It has definitely been a frozen weekend with single digit windchills.  Both Benny and Theresa are appreciating the neighbors that shovel the sidewalks and have been on a route of newspaper pick-ups in the morning for some folks in the neighborhood that may not want to venture onto the ice.

Things should thaw out a bit this week.  In the meantime, we will appreciate the heat and winter wonderland.

Ready for Frozen!
