Happy 17th Birthday!

Anna celebrated her 17th birthday on September 3, which also happened to be a long Labor Day weekend.  Anna decided to celebrate with seven of her friends at home.  The festivities included a taco bar and Mexican food for dinner, a homemade hummingbird cake and almond ice cream (along with some vanilla and chocolate cupcakes), presentation night (that would be Anna's friends showing up with power point presentations on a topic of their choosing.... you had to see it) and watching Anna's favorite movie,
Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Benny may need a few days to recover from the festivities.  He was quick to realize the party as a target rich food opportunity and quickly integrated himself into the group while they were upstairs (he also got lots of pets from the girls).  He slept in the next day and spent most of the day resting.

Other adventures for the week included the following:

  • Benny managed to break open a box from Chewy that arrived and made off with a bag of pumpkin spice dental treats.  He ate 12 of the 20 in the bag (Anna found the evidence).  After a call to the vet, it was determined to let nature take its course, which it did when he vomited later.
  • As a birthday gift, Anna requested to get her ears pierced for the second time.  After some research, Theresa found a local business owned by identical twin sisters that specialized in ear piercings.  They were perfectionist at their work and did a great job.  As an added bonus, Anna got a coupon for a free ice cream cone afterwards (clearly, they do most of their piercings on young girls).
  • Anna and Theresa are coordinating use of the car with Anna driving to school on some days and dropping Theresa off at the metro station.  So far so good.

While Labor Day is the unofficial end of September, the summer jobs are still winding down.  Anna has a few more concerts to work at Wolf Trap and the community decided to keep the pool open the next two weekends (it is supposed to be record heat this week).  Let the summer continue!
