Solo Visit to Ohio

Anna had a rare four consecutive days off the first week of August and took the opportunity to make a quick trip to Ohio.  Theresa dropped her off at the airport curb on Tuesday morning and Anna hopped a quick flight to Dayton, where Grandma & Grandpa picked her up.  Anna served as the driver for the rest of the trip and drove back to Paulding.  Grandma & Grandpa enjoyed having Anna around and hearing all about her Japan trip
.  Anna always enjoys her visits to Ohio and was able to help with the garden and a trip to the new Pancake House restaurant (they have huge portions).  Anna flew back on Friday in time for work.

Grandma is still on her antibiotic regimen.  Since her arm is in a sling, she cannot sleep in bed and has been sleeping in the recliner at night.  The family room as at the opposite end of the house from the bedrooms, so she has her phone to call Grandpa if needed.  During Anna's last night, Grandma woke up at 4 AM and was going to get out of the recliner only to find there was no power and the battery back-up was not working.  She tried to call Grandpa on the phone, but his hearing aids were out, and he had turned off the ringer on his phone.  Anna's phone was plugged in the kitchen, so she didn't hear Grandma either.  Grandma decided to maneuver out of the chair with one arm.  She got one foot on the floor and the chair tipped forward with Grandma sliding out and the chair back on top of her head.  She was finally able to scoot out and push the chair upright, which made a loud thud that neither Grandpa nor Anna heard. Clearly some other contingency plans need to be in place!

In other news:

  • The swim season ended with the Lakevale Dolphins at 0-5 (as opposed to 5-0 last year).  Anna noted she was a phantom member of the team this year missing several fun events because of work commitments.  She did swim in the Saturday meets when she wasn't traveling.  One more season!
  • Benny made his first trip to the groomers and is sporting a nice haircut.  He likes to ride in the car and maintains his laidback demeanor.  He has attached himself to Joe during the week as his hangout person.
  • The garden harvest is coming in and the big producers this year are cucumbers and green beans.  Anna & Theresa canned several jars of pickles and Theresa is breaking out the green bean recipes.

Two more weeks of summer vacation and it is off to senior year for Anna!
