1st Day of Senior Year!

1st Day of Senior Year
Senior year is underway!  Anna began classes on August 21 for what is going to be a busy year.  She is excited for most of her classes, which include:

  • Government (a very cool teacher and no shortage of material to talk about in this class)
  • English (They are reading Hamlet this year)
  • Digital Art
  • Probability & Statistics (the teacher said this class is for the kids that have not enjoyed math up until this point)
  • Choir (possible choir trip to Nashville in the spring)
  • Studio Art & Design 2
  • Human Anatomy & Physiology (lots of lab work)
Joe & Theresa attended back to school night on Thursday which included a special session at 5 PM for senior parents on all of the deadlines (graduation will be June 4) followed by meeting all of Anna's teachers, complete with bell schedule, from 6-8 PM.  It was a full evening!  The choir teacher noted that after several years, the pie guy is retiring (this was the annual fall pie sales that choir members did to raise money).  No word on a replacement fundraiser but there will be several disappointed people who count on the choir to supply their Thanksgiving pies.  The choir director also noted that December will be particularly busy with holiday performance for Anna's choir, the Madigrals (this is the acapella choir).  The teachers with senior classes (government and English) both noted that they are trying to get to January as senioritis really sets in around February.  Anna has negotiated a deal to share the car with Theresa on some days so that she can drive to school (Fortunately her friend Vic lives next to the school and said Anna could park in their driveway).
1st Day of Kindergarten

In other events of the past two weeks:

  • Anna is finishing out the summer lifeguarding (pool opened through Labor Day) and at Wolf Trap (concerts end September 29).  Since students returned to college, Anna has been working extra.
  • Theresa & Anna met Pauletta for a delayed birthday celebration at the Kennedy Center on August 13 where they say Moulin Rouge.  The sets were spectacular, and the performance was a lot of fun.  As always, Pauletta was dressed to fit the show theme.
  • Theresa has been working the neighborhood garden plot, which is producing a massive amount of green beans.  All of the neighbors are benefitting from the bounty.  As an added bonus, Sunday she was able to harvest figs from one of the neighbors who has a fig bounty.  There is much fresh produce!
    Sunday at the Kennedy Center

This week is Labor Day weekend, which means it is also Anna's birthday.  More to come on that.
Lots of fresh figs!
