On the Road

It has been a busy couple of weeks with a road theme, including visitors on a road trip, Anna on the road, and Theresa also on a trip.

Anna's first drive
We were happy to welcome Aunt Lucy and Aunt Terri who stopped by on their road trip from Massachusetts to South Carolina.  This was quite a trip that involved a furniture delivery effort to Terri's daughter (thus why they were driving) and Virginia was conveniently the halfway point.  They came bearing all sorts of gourmet goodies, including fresh rhubarb for Theresa.  They even stayed an extra day on the return trip and got to spend a day enjoying the art museums in DC.  Alas, all good things must come to an end and their trip home will be unforgettable.  Unfortunately, it is unforgettable as they got caught in an epic traffic jam north of Baltimore.  What should have taken 1 hour took 5.  At one point, they got out of the truck and picnicked along the side of the road.  What should have been an 8-hour trip was 12 hours.  They may never leave Massachusetts again (not that we would blame them).  Fortunately, they made it home safely, although may be suffering from PTSD (post traffic stress disorder).

A visit from Lucy & Terri
Speaking of driving, Anna is officially on the road solo.  Her first outing was to Vienna Jammers practice, and she was fortunate to have her aunts present along with her parents to cheer her on and video her as she pulled out of the driveway.  She got her license just in time as her summer jobs started.  She has already worked the concession stand for a couple of Wolf Trap concerts and is scheduled up through the month of June.  She also started life guarding on Memorial Day weekend.  This means she will have money to put gas in the car.

Theresa was able to extend a work trip to Portland, Oregon into a long weekend with Pauletta, who flew out to meet her.  They had a great time exploring the Oregon Coast and enjoyed some of Oregon wine country.  The scenery was spectacular,
and the trip is well documented thanks to Pauletta's photography.  Theresa took a red-eye back and made it in time for Anna's performance on Memorial Day at Viva Vienna with the Vienna Jammers.

Happy Memorial Day!
