Pandemic Week 110: Return to Soccer

After a 2-year hiatus, Anna returned to Vienna Youth Soccer (VYS) this weekend with the first game on Sunday.  Actually, the first game was supposed to be Saturday, but the opposing team was exposed to COVID and had to cancel (somehow that was a fitting start).  The second game was Sunday and her team won 4-1.  Anna is happy to join some of her previous soccer friends and current classmates on the team.  The weather was spectacular for play with sunny skies, 83 degrees, and a light breeze.

Since the weather was so nice, it was a perfect day to kick-off the grilling season.  Theresa decided ice cream was also in order and opted to make chocolate peanut-butter cup ice cream.  Since the ice cream maker is rather loud, Theresa sometimes will use the laundry room to run the ice cream maker.  The problem is that the only available outlet is on the floor, so she will just plug it in there for the 20 minutes needed.  Today, the laundry room door was not closed, and Joe let Storm back in the house from the backyard.  Let's just say that Storm quickly found the spinning ice cream and did his best to get a taste while it was running.  Judging from his face, he was successful to a degree.  After monitoring him for chocolate poisoning (a problem for dogs), he seems to be ok.  He was quite excited about his find.  We will find a new location for the ice cream maker.

In other events of the week:

  • Anna attended her first air rifle session.  One of the neighbors is recruiting for a Madison team.  Since he knew Anna likes archery, he asked if she wanted to try it out.  She enjoyed it and did decent on her targets for the first time.  Future sessions TBD.
  • The painters finished final touch-up on the inside of the house.  It looks great, but of course led to a series of other things that needed updated/cleaned.
  • The carpet was cleaned on Friday.  This was one of the things that became an apparent need when the painters finished.  Storm expressed his appreciation by immediately peeing on the floor to mark his spot when the carpet cleaner left.
  • Theresa enjoyed her first bike ride of the season on Saturday morning.
  • The garden is ready for the season.  Compost was added and lettuce planted!
  • COVID cases continue to rise at school.  The school sent a daily notice of cases this week - more than we've ever seen.
  • Meanwhile, Theresa's office started on the new work schedules.  There is still much telework going on, but most everyone came into the office this week - some for the first time in 2 years.

Happy Spring!
