Pandemic Week 106: The Choir Trip and a Lifeguard

Anna & Choir Friends
It was an eventful week for Anna.  For the past few months, she had been looking forward to the spring choir trip.  Due to COVID, this year's trip was limited to Virginia (past trips have gone to New York and Florida).  The fact that there was a trip at all was a success.  This year's trip was to Williamsburg and Virginia Beach with stops at Great Wolf Lodge (an indoor waterpark), a day at Virginia Beach, and Bush Gardens amusement park.  Standing between Anna and the trip was homework and a potential concussion.

Monday Anna was not feeling great and had a headache from her fall the day before.  She came home from school a bit early and took a break from Jammers and swimming during the week.  She was also working through her homework requirements (her mom put some key deadlines that needed to be hit before she could go on the trip).  Wednesday, she sent a text from school that she hit her head again.  Actually, one of her friends was goofing around and knocked her head against someone else's.  This time, Theresa took her to urgent care to check since she was supposed to leave on the choir trip the next day.  The doctor diagnosed a mild concussion but cleared her to go, along with instructions to rest and don't go on any crazy amusement park rides.  Anna managed to get her homework done that night and pack for the trip.

After much build-up and drama to go, the trip turned out to be meh.  Anna said she didn't sleep much the first night.  This left her tired the second day, which was walking the boardwalk at Virginia Beach, which was chilly.  She did say there was a great seafood dinner that night.  Saturday was a cold and windy day at Busch Gardens, resulting in many of the rides being shut down.  This worked out o.k. for Anna since she really couldn't ride them anyway.  They choir ended up leaving early as the rain began.  Anna arrived home Saturday night exhausted.  She was none too happy to get up for an 8 AM lifeguard test on Sunday morning (since last week's class ended with the EMS, the group needed to finish).  Luckily, they finished early, AND she passed the test AND she had enough time for church choir (again, Anna was not happy).  She finally got to take a nap on Sunday afternoon.

As for Joe and Theresa, it was a quiet weekend.  Joe is still experiencing up and down energy levels.  Theresa has been busy with work and is preparing to go return downtown this week 3 days a week as Federal employees begin to roll back into the office (she has not told Storm yet).   Theresa has been going in a couple of days a week the past few months so the real difference will be the addition of other people in the office.   The tourists are definitely rolling back into DC as evidenced by the crowds at the cherry blossoms last week.  Theresa got caught in the blossom viewing traffic jam while trying to get home from work (it was tourist mayhem).  She was fondly recalling her last day in the office in 2020 before going on telework when she was able to walk around the tidal basin and enjoy peak cherry blossoms with no tourists.  That was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

We are looking forward to more spring weather (it was definitely winter this weekend) and an upcoming spring break.  We will not be joining the tourists in DC.
