Pandemic Week 92: Another Pandemic Christmas

After the choir concert
As we head into Christmas week, there is not a lot of good news on the pandemic front.  Omicron is taking over.  Infections are rising as well as hospitalizations.  The Washington, DC area is no exception, with one Maryland county sending students home early for winter break and planning to resume virtual school until at least Martin Luther King Day.  It will not surprise anyone in the Fagella household if the rest of the area follows.  For now, Anna is officially on winter break for two weeks (yea) with plans for a quieter, more socially distance Christmas BUT with more activities than last year.

In between watching COVID numbers increase, it was a busy week.  Highlights included the following:

  • Anna had her winter choir concert on Wednesday (once again - choir was in masks as was the audience). Our neighbor Jackie joined us for a fun show.  Anna was also excited to learn the choir is planning to resume the spring choir trip, albeit more limited (and dependent on COVID).
  • Theresa went into the office three days this week (the most since March 2020).  She even got to have dinner with some colleagues (outside of course).  It is helpful to

  • Theresa got her COVID booster on Friday.  Just in time!  Fingers crossed that the age will be lowered so that Anna can also get her booster soon.
  • Sunday was an outing to Great Falls National Park.  Thanks to Joe's annual senior pass, we actually went into the national park (we usually go to the connecting county park) and explored a whole new trail.
  • The cookie baking extravaganza kicked off this weekend.  Anna enlisted some friends for decorating this week (pictures forthcoming).

We are looking forward to resuming some Christmas celebrations this week, albeit not all.  Anna is planning to sing in the youth choir on Christmas Eve.  That will be an improvement over broadcast mass from last year.  We will be thankful for what we can do but mindful that the pandemic is very much not over.
