Pandemic Week 84: First High School Choir Concert!

Post-Choir Performance
October 20 was a big day for the James Madison High School Choir (or Mad Choir as they are known) and the orchestra.  For the first time since the pandemic, they held their first live, public performance.  The entire day at school on October 20 was Mad Music Day and they did a total of 4 shows (3 for local elementary and middle schools and 1 in the evening).  Anna was thrilled to participate in the performance, which also included a new choir uniform debut.

Joe, Theresa, along with Mrs. Latimer enjoyed the evening show.  Joe and Theresa realized the last live performance they watched Anna in outside of church was her 8th grade Christmas program at St. Mark.  The Mad choir and orchestra (who accompanied the choir) were truly outstanding and left the audience feeling as if they were watching a professional show.  Choir members and audience members were masked up (it is clear the choir members have really learned to project with the mask).  It was a great show.  Hopefully a link will be posted soon.  In the meantime, we are looking forward to the December concerts.

In other news for the week:

  • Theresa returned from Ohio on Tuesday afternoon.  She flew out of the Dayton, Ohio airport and found herself sitting next to what could have been a gangster or a rock band member (definitely not your typical Ohio plane passenger).  Actually, there was a group of them.  She tried to google at least one to see if he was famous, but concluded they were likely aspiring rock band members.
  • Anna joined her girl scout troop on Friday night at Cox farms for "Fields of Fear."  She has been going to Cox Farms every year since kindergarten, with the exception of 2020.  This was her first year for the haunted corn field.  As luck would have it, a party bus full of all the boys from her St. Mark class also was there to celebrate someone's birthday.  It was a bit of a reunion (although several did not recognize Anna with her new haircut).
  • Saturday night Anna attended a murder mystery party hosted by one of her friends.  Everyone received their character ahead of time and dressed for the part.  A good time was had by all.
  • Since Anna was tired and grumpy on Sunday, Joe & Theresa headed to Turkey Run park for a hike along the Potomac  River to enjoy the lovely fall weather.

The Halloween fun continues this week with the annual Vienna Halloween parade on Wednesday (a welcome return after being canceled last year) along with various activities planned by Anna and her friends.  Anna is also looking forward to an extra long weekend thanks to the end of the quarter.
