Pandemic Week 81: Homecoming Prep

Hiking at Bull Run Mountain
The first weekend of October was anything but fall-like.  In fact, the air conditioner needed to be turned on again today.  We did get out for a hike to enjoy the nice weather and stopped to pick up some pumpkins and mums.

The big adventure this weekend was finding a homecoming dress for Anna.  She is going to the dance, which will be next Saturday, with a bunch of her friends.  The first lesson is to start early.  We did not, meaning that most of the dresses Anna saw on-line would not arrive in time.  Her second ideas was to go thrifting; however, this was the same problem in that dresses were picked over.  Alas, she was left to shop with her mom and as an added bonus Dad joined in (his role was to assure appropriate clothing coverage).

The first stop on the shopping trip was actually a hike.  Since the weather was nice and everyone was ready a little earlier than normal, we planned a quick hike at Bull Run mountain before the trip.  This trail was conveniently located near our favorite pumpkin patch - Wal-Mart.  After a few years of finding a pick-your-own pumpkin patch and coming out with a very expensive bill, Joe lobbied for the convenience  and value of the Wal-Mart $4.98 pumpkins.  While picking out pumpkins, we also picked some mums (also a good deal) along with some random supplies.  They did not have an appropriate homecoming dress at Wal-Mart, so we moved on.

Joe came through in a big way with a store suggestion for Anna's dress, which turned out to be exactly where we found it. The dress marginally passed the Dad test (Joe may still make Anna wear a t-shirt underneath to make sure she has appropriate coverage.  Anna did need to alter the dress a bit, which she did herself.  A quick stop at JC Penney yielded some accessories and she is ready for the dance.  More details next week.  In other news of the week:

  • Anna was home from school on Monday with some sort of stomach bug that seems to be working its way around the school.  Fortunately it was only a day.
  • Joe harvested what is likely the last of the garden tomatoes (maybe we can get a few more).
  • Theresa actually went into the office AND met some new co-workers, included her boss.  Up until this point everything was virtual.  Her new office is across from Nationals Ballpark in DC.

Happy Homecoming Week!
