Pandemic Week 70: Swim Team Scavenger Hunt

The winning relay team - by .02 seconds!
The summer swim season continues.  This week marked the final home meet of the season.  The team won (Anna finished 3rd in breaststroke and 4th in butterfly).  One of the most exciting races of the day was Anna's relay team who once again pulled out a win by .02 seconds.  It was a photo finish!  With the exception of one race, all of their races have been exciting this year.  She has a great group of friends on her relay team who really enjoy swimming together and encourage each other!

After the swim meet was an alumni relay event at the pools (always fun to watch the former swimmers compete).  Since it was so hot, everyone hung out in the pool until the thunderstorms rolled in.  It never actually stormed but rather thundered the entire afternoon, resulting in the pool closing.  A group of Anna's friends relocated to our basement for the afternoon to watch movies and hang out.

Sunday was the biggest swim team event of the season - the annual scavenger hunt.  For two hours, five different teams were racing around the neighborhood securing things on their list, including a canoe, a real baby tooth, a live snake, a rolling stones record (Joe happened to have that) among assorted other random things on a four-page list.  A group of judges verified items on the list.  Anna's team was tied with another, which meant their teams had a tic-tock dance off (we are quite proud that Anna was able to teach her team the dance....apparently all that time watching videos on her phone paid off).  Crowd reaction determined the winner and Anna's team won.  In addition to bragging rights, the team also received gift cards to Duck Doughnuts.  After the event, parents could be seen driving around the neighborhood returning borrowed items.

It was another fun weekend for Anna.  She is really appreciating the return to activities this summer.

Meanwhile, COVID remains lurking in the background as numbers go back up among the unvaccinated.  The school year is going to be interested, particularly for the younger students that are not eligible for vaccinations.  We are counting on folks to get their vaccines so we can all enjoy the freedom of returning to our activities and seeing family and friends.
