Pandemic Week 69: A Visit from the Uncles

Uncle Tim & Uncle rod
You know the world has returned to normal when the car shows return.  July 10 marked the return of the Carlisle Chrysler National auto show in Pennsylvania.  Each year, Uncle Rod & Uncle Tim make their pilgrimage to the show and usually stop  for a visit in Northern Virginia on the way home.  This year the show returned in all its former glory and so did the annual road trip.   The Fagella bed and breakfast is open to all guests who have been vaccinated (Uncle Rod just managed to squeak in his vaccinations....although he conveniently did not have his vaccination card with him).  It was a quick visit, but there was plenty of time for the uncles to tease their niece, who attempted to hide out in her room.

The rest of the week was dominated by swim team.  Monday night was a long, hot meet, but Anna got first place in the 50 meter butterfly.  The divisional relays were held Wednesday night, which also happened to be the hottest day of the week at 98 degrees.  Anna's relay team finished 2nd in the 200 meter medley relay for their age group (she again swam butterfly).  Saturday morning was the regular meet, which the team won (Anna finished 2nd in breaststroke and their relay team won a very exciting race).

In between there was plenty of social activities.  Friday night was team pictures, followed by a pasta dinner and karaoke.  Unfortunately a huge thunderstorm rolled through right before the pictures, resulting in a scramble to put the karaoke equipment and tables inside.  Everything was delayed, but the show went on (including the popcorn and cotton candy).  Who would have thought the singing would be dominated by the 11 year old boys, but that is what happened.  Actually, there were lots of large groups and the singing was questionable BUT they had a great time.  Saturday night was movie night at the pool,  which involved the team members on floats and a giant movie screen.  The older kids (including Anna) have no idea what movie was playing, but they had a lot of fun hanging out.

As for the rest of the week, Anna continues her summer babysitting job and comes home exhausted.  This week, the 7-year boy proposed to her.  Anna noted the age difference ("I'm twice your age") and he told her he was joking.  On the plus side, she is getting along well with the kids and has impressed them with her ability to make macaroni & cheese and construct models from Harry Potter.

It is going to be a typical hot and humid week in DC with temperatures in the 90s and storms - perfect for swimming.  Happy summer!
