Pandemic Week 60: Happy Mother's Day!

Klara & Theresa on a hike
The best way to celebrate Mother's Day this year is with a vaccination, which is exactly what Theresa received earlier in the week. Second vaccination complete!  Fingers crossed that vaccines will be approved in the coming week for teenagers so that Anna can join the vaccinated numbers.

In addition to a vaccine, Theresa was the recipient of some beautiful roses from Joe, a painting from Anna, and a popover pan from Grandma.  She decided that she wanted to make a white cake from scratch for Sunday dessert since she happen to have some extra egg whites in the refrigerator (Theresa is always looking for ways to use up leftover items).  All was going fine until it was time to rotate the pans.  One of the pans got away and spilled all over the oven door and.....well let's just say there was a large mess.  This required the self-cleaning oven feature, which ultimately resulted in the smoke alarm going off.  Storm does not hear much these days, but he heard that.  Instead of smelling like cake, the house now smells like there was a small fire.  The other half of the cake was repurposed for strawberry shortcake (which required another stop at the grocery store for strawberries).  The cake that did remain tasted good.  Better luck next time.

Other items for the week included:

  • Joe at last converted the home phone over to Google voice.  This was a multiple-week effort to keep the home phone number and involved a temporary cell phone.  This was a detailed project that required hours of research and focus - perfect for Joe.  If you would like more details, you will need to ask him...and he will be happy to tell you.
  • Anna braved the rain with her friends on Friday after school to get snacks at WaWa.  In short, another normal teenage outing ....and very much appreciated.
  • Cleaned the back porch for the season.  This involves washing the windows (which Anna did this year) and wiping down the furniture.
  • Purchased the first tomato plants of the season thanks to the neighbor's plant sale.  Their kids raised tomato and basil plants to sell and had quite a crowd at their booth (not to mention the plants were nice).  This year they expanded to include homemade goats milk soap and candles AND half the proceeds go to charity.
  • Enjoyed a hike at Fountainhead regional park with Theresa's friend Klara & her family.  It was a beautiful day and the first meet-up with fully vaccinated adults.
Happy Mother's Day!
