Pandemic Week 46: The First Snow.....and a Funeral

Giant snowman by the lake
Today marked the first significant snowfall in two years.  What constitutes a significant snowfall?  So far....3 inches.  That's right - the most snow we had at one time over the past two years occurred today with 3 inches.  It was enough to allow for a little sledding and some snowman building.  Actually, some neighbors made a HUGE snowman near the lake (check out the photos).  It was quite the conversation piece.  Anna got to hang out with her friend Ellie foe some sledding - a welcome change.  There may be a little more snow tomorrow, but nothing compared to what our family in New York and Massachusetts are about to get (enjoy).

Saturday was a sad day as we attended the funeral of our neighbor, Matt Latimer.  Matt and his mom, Jackie, live across the street from us.  We got to know him better under unfortunate circumstances when they stayed with us following the fire at their house.  Matt was on the list for a kidney transplant, which sadly did not happen in time.  He and his Mom had just moved back into the house the day after Thanksgiving and have spent the past couple of months unpacking.  He recently became a grandpa for the first time.  It is quite sad, especially for Jackie.  The pandemic restricted the funeral to a very small service.  The neighbors are rallying around Jackie with notes, food, and today shoveling snow.  To say she had a rough couple of years would be an understatement.  Hopefully brighter days are ahead.

In other news of the week:

  • The girls high school swim team won the district meet.  This week it is on to regionals.  Due to COVID, it is a limited group of participants.  Anna is cheering them on from home.
  • We had some successes in the new air fryer this week, including broccoli and french fries.
  • Anna spent the weekend catching up on homework (lets just say Theresa is now refreshed on DNA replication).  Let's just the say the goal is to NOT have homework next weekend.
  • Girl Scout cookies arrived!  In what was the most efficient deliver system ever, we picked them up and had them delivered all within the span of two hours.  We also returned a lost dog along the way that we found while making deliveries.  Thanks to everyone who bought cookies!  Anna is looking forward to using her sale proceeds for a girl scout trip........someday.

Happy February!
