Pandemic Week 44: What happened to the bread?

The Potomac from the Maryland side
After being locked down for so long, you begin to notice changes in once ordinary things.  Joe has noticed a significant decrease in quality of his sandwich bread of choice:  Arnold's Oatnut Bread.

For at least 20 years, Joe has been a loyal customer of Arnold's Oatnut Bread.  On occasion, Theresa has tried a different brand, but all have been unsatisfactory (slices are too thick, too many nuts, too few nuts, etc....).  Over the past few weeks, Joe has noticed some slices of the bread are burned.  At first he thought it was just a bad batch, but it has been a consistent problem.  It has reached the point of lodging a complaint with Arnold (Theresa and Anna can attest to the emotional distress that is caused when Joe's lunches are ruined by burned bread).  Perhaps Arnold is experience a reduction in quality control due to the pandemic.  Will Joe at last be forced to switch to a different brand of bread?  Only time will tell....

In other news of the week:

  • Anna attended her second high school swim meet of the season.  The team had 4 meets so far (Anna swam in two) with the final meet this Friday before districts.  Because of the condensed season, the coach has mostly split the team since there are two meets a weekend.  The women's team is undefeated (and reigning state champions for their division).
  • Theresa received a summons for jury duty the last week of January (she is crossing her fingers she will not be called, although the prospect of going out to do something new is exciting
    ).
  • The family crossed the river and went for a hike in Maryland on Sunday along the C&O canal trail.  Sometimes you just need to see the river from the other side.

The upcoming week will be a big one.  We are holding our breath that it will be peaceful.
