Pandemic Week 39: A Capitol Christmas
Visiting the Capitol tree |
This year, most things are closed (including the train display - a big disappointment to Theresa). Instead, the family headed to take a look at the Capitol Christmas tree and the construction of the viewing stands for the Presidential inauguration. It was an urban hike day around Capitol Hill to admire the old row houses, Eastern Market, the Supreme Court (there were a handful of protestors), and the Library of Congress. We even managed to pick up some lunch and find a socially distance place to enjoy it outside the Library of Congress. It was like spring!
Following the Sunday trip to Capitol Hill, we hurried home to prepare for the girl scouts. Anna's troop had a service project they were working on that involved sewing. We hosted it in our garage/driveway, thus were especially thankful for the great weather. Each girl had a station, was wearing a mask, and spaced apart. Christmas music was blaring and they had a good time. Anna put her sewing machine to work for the group. They even had a gift exchange at the end. Even at a distance, it was nice to get together with friends for a bit.
Other events from the week:
- Theresa's gym closed permanently. Theresa has loyally gone for 12 years, well that is until the pandemic (along with lots of others that stopped going, which would explain the closure). This was a sad day. No need to rush to find a new gym at this point.
- Anna had her last one day a week of in person school on Wednesday. The COVID cases continue to increase, thus the school stopped the pilot.
- Packages began arriving. Thank goodness for Amazon.
Sadly, that is likely the last of the nice weather for some time. It was good while it lasted. Happy Holidays!
