Pandemic Week 18: First Aid Certification Week
Anna completing her PE log for the week |
One of the PE requirement to graduate from high school in Virginia is that the student must "demonstrate skill" in CPR/AED and basic first aid. In order to meet this requirement, Anna and Theresa signed up for a Red Cross first aid course (Theresa decided it was just good to have). How does one train for CPR during a pandemic? Well, the Red Cross has it figured out. First you need to complete an on-line training with simulations (it should be noted that it took Theresa twice as long to finish as it did Anna). Then, you need to go to an instructor led course for CPR and AED training. The class was small (10 people) and socially distanced). Everyone had to wear masks and gloves and some of the hands on training was eliminated (no breathing on the CPR dummies or bandaging another person). Anna clearly comprehended more form the on-line training than Theresa did as well as she was able to answer the questions (Theresa needed her notes). Both Anna and Theresa are Red Cross certified for first aid.
Halibut with zucchini & tomatoes |
On the plus side for the week, we are enjoying the bounty from the garden plot. Anna made 4 loaves of zucchini bread AND we had zucchini for dinner AND we gave some away. Tomatoes are starting to come as well. We will be looking for new recipes this week for our fresh veggies.
