Halloween 2019

Anna & Joe's Pumpkin Carving

Some things change and some things stay the same.  Halloween is no exception.  Things that changed this year:
  • No  trick-or-treating for Anna (she hung out with her friends & handed out candy)
  • Last year for Cox Farms (she and her friends found it boring)
  • Last year for middle school Halloween dance
  • First year for big Halloween party at her friend's house

Things that stayed the same:
  • Hosting the Halloween father-daughter dance with the Girl Scouts
  • Decorating pumpkin cookies with Mom
  • Carving pumpkins with Dad
  • Finding a costume for the dance
  • Crazy costume for Mom

Preparing for the Father-Daughter dance
Anna kicked off the Halloween season with her Girl Scout troop and the annual father-daughter costume dance.  This is a major fundraising event for her troop and the girls had a great time putting it together.  They had a new DJ this year, which was the hit of the party.  The Girl Scouts were leading the dances on the floor (including Baby Shark - all the rage in Washington these days).

The Halloween festivities continued with a long weekend (thanks to a teacher work day) and the middle school dance.  Most of the 8th graders were there and Anna had a great time.  The following day was the annual trip to Cox Farms with her friends.  The girls suddenly realized that they had outgrown this annual outing (it is a sad day when the slides and corn maze no longer hold the thrill they once did).  Saturday night was Anna's first big Halloween party, hosted by her friend Annie.  The entire 8th grade was in attendance (Annie's parents are brave) and by all accounts it was a big success.  Anna was discussing in great detail all of the Halloween-themed feed food they had for snacks.

October 31 was a big celebration for a completely different reason - the Washington Nationals winning the World Series!!  Everyone at school wore their Nationals attire (actually - everyone in Washington wore their Nationals attire) for "Rock the Red" day.  Instead of trick-or-treating, Anna hung out with her friends and handed out candy.  Trick-or-treating started early as everyone wanted to finish ahead of a line of thunderstorms.

Theresa enjoyed celebrating Halloween at work by wearing a witch costume (this was after several other costume ideas, not the least of which was wearing Anna's school uniform).  The witch costume worked well, particularly because no one recognized Theresa (she is considering wearing costumes to work more frequently).  Joe was slightly horrified by the costume choice, but thought it was a better option than the clown costume.

Happy Halloween!
