Thanksgiving with the Kohlers
Aidyn, Grandma, Anna & Grandpa |
There are definitely some Thanksgiving traditions for the Kohler's at Deep Creek. First, Grandpa spends the entire weekend fixing various things at the rental property. Really, the owner should pay Grandpa for staying there as we always leave it better than we found it. Second, Theresa will re-organize the cabinets. This usually occurs while cooking Thanksgiving dinner since none of the utensils are ever in a logical place. Third, Uncle Rod and Uncle Tim spend the entire weekend on a college football marathon. This year was no exception and they were quite excited to have a large sofa sectional complete with cup holders and recliner features to watch the games. They were in the basement most of the weekend. Fourth, Grandma spends the weekend worrying about whether the house is ok or if there will be enough food. Finally, Saturday is the annual Ohio State-Michigan games, which Ohio State won in spectacular fashion. Grandma is the biggest fan and was repeatedly yelling at the tv. Thanks to the victory, we were able to have a peaceful weekend. Throw in a black Friday visit to WalMart and Lowe's and we have a Kohler Thanksgiving at Deep Creek Lake.
A new twist this year was the potential buyer that came to look at the house on Saturday. The Kohlers got to play the part of your typical "renters" while the real estate agent roamed the house. As a thank you for this minor inconvenience, Grandma and Grandpa got a gift card to a local restaurant, which we used for dinner.
Anna and Aidyn had a great time hanging out. Aidyn is a new found convert to the game of Life, which he played with gusto (note that Joe made strategic investments and cleaned up ...but Aidyn came in second). They also had fun playing iPad games, visiting the nature center, playing lots of pool (Uncle Joe gave Aidyn alot of lessons) and watching way too much tv. Storm also got to go along for the trip and was probably the most excited of anyone. He quickly realized that Grandma was his food ticket. He got a bonus walk at one of the local state parks. He managed to peacefully coexist with Bitsy - Aunt Courtney's chihuahua.
It was a relaxing weekend with lots of good food. A big thanks to Grandma and Grandpa for organizing. Happy Thanksgiving!
