Anna's Summer Ohio Adventure

Aidyn & Anna at Kings Island
Anna made her annual summer trip to Ohio to spend a week with her grandparents.  This is probably her favorite vacation of the summer - largely because her grandparents provide all sorts of entertainment.....and no parents to contend with.  Mom and Dad were there for the first weekend in order to take Anna and cousin Aidyn to Kings Island amusement park.

Anna was definitely excited to go to Kings Island.  Aidyn was less excited about the rides.  Anna did convince him to go on a roller coaster and a few other rides before ducking for shelter thanks to passing thunderstorms.  After spending the night at a local hotel (grandma and grandpa met the group there), the next day they headed for Soak City, the water park at Kings Island.  There were lots of long lines, but Anna and Aidyn waited it out for some water slide adventures.  Aidyn really enjoyed the wave pool.  Mom spent most of the day trying to figure out how she and Joe were going to get home after finding out their flight was canceled (they ended up renting a car and driving back to Virginia). Anna headed home with Grandma and Grandpa for a week of adventures.

Husking corn with Grandpa
There is always something to do with the grandparents.  The big news was the addition of Grandma's new cat, Cloey.  Anna had a great entertaining the kitten.  Anna's big lesson this time was learning to shift on the riding lawn mowers.  She is now able to drive it by herself.  She helped Grandma freeze corn.  This involved going to the Amish market to buy 6 dozen ears of corn, shucking them with Grandpa and helping Grandma bag them.  It was a lot of corn!  Grandma also had a sewing project for Anna and helped her make a drawstring backpack (it came out great).

There was one small crisis which involved a small piece of broccoli.  While chewing it, a wire popped off of Anna's braces.  Grandma and Grandpa rushed into action and called their dentist.  This happens to be the same dentist - Dr. Harr - that did Theresa's braces (Theresa couldn't believe he was still in business....he is well into his 70s).  Dr. Harr was already home, but came back to the office to make the repair.  Anna got to have a conversation with him about Theresa.  Good times.  Grandma felt responsible for the broccoli incident for not cutting it smaller.  Theresa was just thrilled that Anna was eating vegetables.  All repairs were made.  It is unclear if Anna finished her vegetables.

Anna returned on Sunday - flying back by herself (Grandma was far more worried about this than Anna).  She is now attempting to re-enter life with her parents.  It is sort of a detox program - limited tv and snacks.  She has been regaling her parents in great detail all of the commercials she watched on tv during the week (when you watch Netflix or YouTube, you don't have to contend with commercials).  Her parents suggested that perhaps she could Grandma and discuss the details of the commercials with her.

A big thanks to Grandma and Grandpa for a fun week.  Anna is already planning her next visit - when she does not need to fly as an unaccompanied minor.  She plans to fly on her own.  See you soon!
