Thanksgiving at Deep Creek Lake
Courtney, Rod, Tim, Grandpa, Theresa, Anna, Aidyn & Grandma |
New to the trip this year was Storm, who made his debut with the Kohlers. It is quite possible that he had the best time of anyone after a long weekend of non-stop attention and secret treats from Grandma and Grandpa (Storm tasted a lot of sausage and bacon). He was also excited that Aunt Courtney brought her chihuahua, Bitsy. Bitsy, however, was not nearly as excited about Storm, who proceeded to follow her around most of the weekend. Storm also got to sleep in the same room with Aidyn and Anna - also a treat.
One of the highlights at Deep Creek Lake is all of the hiking opportunities. Unfortunately the weather was rainy most of the weekend, limiting the outdoor opportunities. We did get a chance to visit a couple of local museums. We also took the kids to the nature center, which had a special raptor rescue. We got to see a bald eagle and a golden eagle up close, along with some owls.
Saturday was the big Ohio State-Michigan game. Uncle Rod and Uncle Tim were left undisturbed in the basement to watch the event while the rest of the family watched upstairs. There was much yelling at the tv and at one point we thought we may need to contact emergency personnel for Uncle Tim. Fortunately Ohio State pulled out a victory in double overtime. We celebrated the big win (along with Rod and Tim's 40th birthday) at a local brew pub.
It was a nice, relaxing weekend and great getaway. A big thanks to Grandma & Grandpa for making it possible. Happy Thanksgiving!
