Columbus Day in Columbus

Anna and Aidyn collecting eggs
What better way to celebrate Columbus Day weekend than a trip to Columbus, Ohio?  That is just what Anna and family did, leaving the outer rain bands of Hurricane Mathew behind to head for Buckeye country.  Of course Anna couldn't leave until she played her soccer game....in the pouring rain (the Red Comets tied 3-3).  After a hot shower and some warm clothes, she was ready to head to the airport.

This trip to Ohio was a bit different.  Instead of going to Grandma and Grandpa's house, Anna and family stayed with Uncle Tim, who was kind enough to host.  Uncle Tim runs a great B&B, complete with delicious dinners, breakfast and lots of dessert options.  We will go back!  Grandma and Grandpa came down on Sunday for some family time (Grandma's meals on wheels service was running as she brought a large Sunday dinner). Anna enjoyed hanging out with cousin Aidyn, especially rollerblading and scootering in the basement.

Sunday also included a visit to Uncle Rod and Aunt Courtney's new place.  They recently purchased 4 acres and an old farmhouse, which they are in the process of renovating.  Anna and Aidyn had a blast building a stone fort, exploring the trails, and building houses out of moving boxes.  The highlight was the chickens, particularly when Anna got to see a chicken "actually lay an egg."  She and

Aidyn collected the eggs and were able to feed the chickens.

Since everyone else returned to work on Monday, Anna, Joe & Theresa made a visit to German Village where they enjoyed an enormous bookstore, a great lunch, a walk to Schiller Park, and ice cream at Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream (https://jenis.com/) which was every bit as good as the hype.  The weather was beautiful and perfect for exploring German Village.  The family hopped an afternoon flight back, picked up Storm from the dog sitter, and headed home.

It was a great weekend to catch up with the Ohio family.  Thanks Uncle Tim for hosting and to Grandma and Grandpa for making the trip to Columbus....with food.
