Grandparents Day - 80s Style

80s Day at School
Grandma and Grandpa arrived for a long week visit to celebrate grandparents day with Anna.  This is an annual school tradition and is marked by several fun events for both kids and grandparents, including the annual spring show.

Anna was particularly excited to go to school that day, not only because of her grandparents but because it was a dress down day.  Thanks to the spring concert, the students were allowed to wear their 80s attire (that would be 1980s as opposed to 80 year old).  Grandma and Grandpa were dropped off at carpool with Anna and got to go to class with her.  Her teacher arranged a game of grandparents vs. the students multiplication bingo.  The grandparents went to mass with the kids and were treated to a breakfast afterwards.  The grand finale of the morning was the spring show.

The spring show was without a doubt one of the most entertaining events.  First, you must give credit to the music teacher, Miss Nickel, for knowing her audience and her kids and coming up with a 1980s themed show.  Second, you must also give Miss Nickel a lot of credit for arranging the music pieces...particularly on excluding inappropriate parts of songs (you really don't expect to hear songs by Queen or Poison to be sung at a Catholic school show) while still keeping the entertainment factor.  There was something for everyone - preschoolers singing at the top of their lungs; a 7th grader singing a solo of Queen's "Somebody to Love me," 8th graders playing country music on the ukulele, and third graders missing their dance moves, resulting in a sort of mosh pit on stage. All of this while Miss Nickel's conducted wearing pink legwarmers.  There was many a tearful eye in the audience....mostly from laughter.

Anna enjoyed the rest of the Grandma and Grandpa's visit.  Saturday morning was the neighborhood garage sale, and Anna got up early to go.  In the first 10 minute of the sale, Grandpa was carrying a small filing cabinet down the street.  There was also Anna's soccer game and more yard sales.  Grandpa helped Joe in the yard.  Grandma and Grandpa were treated to Joe's homemade pizza, which he has been perfecting.

It was a fun weekend.  A big thanks to Grandma and Grandpa for making the trip!
