Fall in Gettysburg

Anna on her horse for the day - Gray
Columbus Day was a picture perfect fall weekend.....perfect for a trip to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.  As you can imagine, hiking around a battlefield is not Anna's choice for a road trip BUT it was after you found out it would be a horseback riding tour of the battlefield.

Joe & Theresa at the new visitor center
Joe and Theresa were last at Gettysburg about 12 years ago and were pleasantly surprised by the new visitor center that opened last year.  It is fantastic!  After hiking around a small portion of the battle filed, the family met up with a group for the horseback riding tour.  This was one of the best ways to see the battlefield and the guide was excellent.  We now can see why Picket's charge was actually a good idea in concept, even though it was not a success.  The tour was on the southern side of the battlefield and led by a southern tour guide, so we took some of her explanations with a grain of salt.  Hopefully next time we can tour the northern side of the battlefield.

Anna got some history lessons along the way - the first one being the difference between the revolutionary war and the civil war (they have not covered that yet in 4th grade).

It was a fun day out and a great way to spend a lovely fall weekend.
