Team Awesome & Massachusetts Soccer Fans

Coach Dad, Aunt Lucy, Anna, & Terri after the soccer game
September in Washington is one of the nicest times of the year, so Aunt Lucy and Terri headed south from Massachusetts for a long weekend visit Anna and take in the sights.

The weekend got off to a fine start - including a smooth drive to DC in record time (this may be the first Fagella family member to successfully make it to DC without hitting a traffic jam).  After a long drive, they were ready to stretch their legs and got Anna to take them on a bike ride around the neighborhood.  This proved to be a harrowing trip for Aunt Lucy as Anna sped down hills and was otherwise oblivious to potential traffic hazards (biking in Vienna is a bit different than biking in Ohio with Grandma and Grandpa).  After issuing some safety reminders, Aunt Lucy managed to get Anna home without incident.

Saturday was a beautiful weather day...perfect for a soccer game!  Aunt Lucy and Terri came to cheer Anna on along with Assistant Coach (or as Anna calls him, Coach Dad) and Team Awesome (the name of the team as selected by the girls).  There are a lot of changes with soccer for Anna this year.  First, four members of her team moved up to the travel team, so she has some new team members along with more opportunity to play.  Second, they are playing on a full field.  Third, there are goalies.  Finally, there are now referees - most of which appear to be around 13 years old. It is always an entertaining event.  Anna had a big game, scoring a couple of goals. We think Team Awesome won (the final score was not clear).

The rest of the weekend was spent touristing around DC.  After the soccer game, the family headed for Great Falls National Park to enjoy the beautiful weather.  On Sunday, Aunt Lucy and Terry headed into the city where  they were able to enjoy seven (7) museums.  After that full day, Aunt Lucy still had time to help Anna work on her clay grizzly bear for her science project (it helps to have a professional assist - we only wish Aunt Lucy could have stayed longer to help with the entire diorama).

Monday morning, they took off bright and early for the return trip to Massachusetts.

It was a great weekend for all.  Thanks Aunt Lucy and Terri for making the trip South!
