Vacation at Grandma & Grandpa's House

The Grandparents with Anna & Aidyn
The last week of July marked one of Anna's favorite vacations of the year:  a visit to Grandma and Grandpa's house.  Joe and Theresa loaded up the suburu to make the weekend drive to Ohio to drop Anna off.  As an extra bonus, cousin Aidyn was also there for the weekend so that they could hang out.

Anna had a great time!  She and Aidyn raced their scooters and road bikes all over town with Grandpa.  Biking with Aidyn is its own thrill ride as he weaves through the streets looking at whatever thing strikes his fancy.  Theresa and Joe ended up serving as bike escorts to keep him corralled and out of on-coming traffic.  Anna and Aidyn also spent a lot of time racing remote control cars.  As the weekend wore on, they fell into brother/sister mode and began to irritate each other.  By Sunday, Anna concluded that she was very lucky to be an only child.  We are not sure if Aidyn drew the same conclusion.

Anna bringing in the harvest
Mom & Dad headed back home on Sunday, dropping Aidyn off along the way, while Anna stayed with her grandparents.  She had a great time helping pick vegetables in the garden, hauling produce from the neighbors with the tractor, riding bike with Grandpa, sewing with Grandma, and eating lots of food that Mom does not usually let her have (we believe there was an ice cream snack every night before bedtime).  Anna's favorite thing to do for the week was ride with Grandpa in "Maudine," which is Great-Grandpa's 1965 Dodge truck.  She loved the fact she could ride in the front seat, there was no seat belts, and oddly she had to crank the windows for them to go down.  Anna also enjoyed watching television with Grandma, including The Waltons and America's Got Talent.
Sewing a new schoolbag

On Saturday, Grandpa dropped Anna and Grandma at the airport for the return to Virginia.  Grandma spent the week to help get Anna to camp since Joe was out of town.  This was a mini-vacation for Grandma and a big help to Theresa.....and Theresa's office for that matter.  Among the highlights of the visit were the six loaves of zucchini bread that Grandma made (a big hit at Theresa's office) along with Grandma's award winning brownies.  They are officially award winning  now as she made them for Theresa to take into the office as an entry for the "brownie challenge."  Grandma's brownies were selected by a panel of distinguished judges as the winner in a blind taste test, thus she is the winner of the "Golden Brownie" trophy and is now a legend in Theresa's office.

Completed schoolbag!
Grandma had many other adventures during the week, including a fall at the swimming pool (fortunately she did not fall into the pool and no lifeguard was needed) and a small fire in the oven thanks to a flaming potholder (no brownies were harmed during this incident).  As Uncle Rod noted, Grandma was smokin' in Virginia.  As always, she helped with numerous projects around the house and even expanded her shopping range around Vienna.

Sadly, Grandma left for Ohio today.  Anna will be going through grandma withdrawal this week - especially for the finale of America's Got Talent.  A big thanks to Grandma and Grandpa for a great time and a special thanks to Grandma for coming for the week!
