Father's Day, Last Day of School & Swimming

Father's Day at the ballgame
The summer is off to a busy start.  Actually, it seems like summer is off to a late start thanks to all of the snow days that extended the school year and additional week.  Despite the summer vacation delay, Anna has managed to enjoy some fun summer activities.

Anna enjoyed the Baltimore Aquarium in early June along with the St. Anthony festival in Baltimore's Little Italy.  After meeting up with Mom's friend Rose, and daughter Robin for a trip to the aquarium, Joe, Theresa & Anna headed to Little Italy for dinner.  Anna and Theresa immediately found the cannoli stand while Joe headed for the calamari.  Anna got to watch her first bocce ball tournament and enjoy the nice weather.

Last Day of 2nd Grade
June 15 was Father's Day and yet another beautiful weather day.  Joe celebrated with a leisurely morning reading the newspaper followed by the afternoon at a minor league baseball game - the Potomac Nationals.  Baseball does not have the same level of speed as say basketball (or bocce for that matter), so the major entertainment for Anna was the food vendors.  By the 2nd inning she was asking for a snack.  At the 3rd inning, Theresa took her to get some Italian ice.  Anna returned to her seat at the end of the 5th inning (because that is how long the Italian ice line was).  By the 7th inning, she was ready to go.  Perhaps we need to increase the baseball excitement level for her.

At long last, June 17 was the final day of school.  Anna celebrated with her friends at a pool party hosted by her friend Macallan.  Joe helped supervise this event, which also included 4th and 6th graders thanks to Macallan's older sisters.  Let's just say there were A LOT of kids in the pool.

2nd Grade Pool party
Swim team started and Anna has been going to daily practices.  She has already learned to dive and participated in her first meet on Monday.  Actually, the kick-off for the season was last Saturday's time trials.  Swimming has truly become a family event as both Joe and Theresa were recruited to volunteer.  So far, Joe can be found serving as a timer for races or more recently as a marshal at last Monday's meet (ask Joe about his nemesis, Conner).  Theresa could be found flipping pancakes at last weekend's team pancake breakfast.  Anna is looking forward to her next meet and improving on her times.

Let the summer begin!
