Father-Daughter Dance

Ready for the Father-Daughter Dance
Anna was looking forward to the big Father-Daughter dance this weekend, which was held on Saturday night.  Her Dad, like most of the other fathers, was a bit skeptical of the event.  There was much conversation at soccer practice the night before about appropriate attire for Dads -- especially when the dance theme was Hollywood.  As it turned out, both had a great time.

According to Joe, the dance consisted of the fathers huddled in the corner talking to each other while the girls ran around the gym, danced, and ate a lot of candy (note when the dads are in charge, monitoring of candy intake decreases).  According to Anna, she had smarties, skittles, starbursts, M&Ms, gobstoppers, hershey kisses, twizzlers, and lemonade.  This may have aided her dancing abilities as she took home the trophy for craziest dance (note Joe did not directly contribute to this award).  She also learned other important dances, like the electric slide and the macarena.  Both Anna and Joe had a great time and Anna was thrilled to spend the evening with her Dad.

Theresa was also thrilled as she was able to hang out with her friend Klara for the evening and enjoy some dinner and good conversation (Klara also escaped her boys for a couple of hours).

Mother's Day began with Anna's decision to cut her own bangs in the morning.  Let's just say it could have been worse and hopefully the hair stylist can fix them when they grow out a bit.

Theresa was treated to an afternoon at Meadowlark Botanical Garden, followed by a bike ride and a delicious dinner (along with flowers and a lovely necklace).  Theresa joined Anna at school on Friday for the Mother's Day celebration and gifts, including a flower pot that Anna made.  The kids also made place mats for their Moms.  Theresa was a bit concerned when she read Anna's place mat, which said:

My Mom is special because she takes me shopping and sometimes lets me have a piece of candy after dinner.

Hmmm........

Theresa felt a bit better when she read another card that Anna made, which said The best thing I can give my Mom is respect.  That's more like it!

In between events, Anna received the gold star at her soccer game for best overall diva effort.  Since the opposing team did not have enough players, she volunteered to play for the other team along with one of her other teammates.  She also spent Saturday helping her Mom price items for the upcoming neighborhood yard sale.

Happy Mother's Day!
