Fall Fun

Pumpkin Picking with Dad
It has been a busy fall with plenty of opportunity to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather.  Between assorted festivals and hiking opportunities, Anna was able to explore some new areas in Virginia.

Luray Caverns
In September, the Fagellas headed to the mountains to Luray Caverns.  After years of driving past the signs for the caverns and assuming it was an over-hyped tourist trap, we discovered that it is actually quite a spectacular natural phenomenon.  A trip through the mountain of Virginia requires appropriate music, and Theresa always manages to find the blue grass station on the radio to listen to (so far, Anna seems to enjoy it).  Joe, having read that the caverns are cool, packed numerous jackets for everyone, only to discover that it was actually warmer in the caverns than it was outside that day.  The caverns truly were spectacular and worth the trip.  We also enjoyed the local museum and  a garden maze that really did leave us lost for a while.  We concluded the day with a stop at an apple orchard, where Theresa proceeded to buy way too many apples.  The caverns are worth the trip!

Dino Slide at Cox Farm (Anna 2nd from left)
Anna and Theresa celebrated Columbus Day by meeting Anna's friend Sofia at Cox Farms.  The rain held off (and the threat of rain kept the crowds down) so that the girls (along with Sofia's little brother) could enjoy numerous slides, a corn maze, a hay ride, live music, popcorn.....all the necessities of a fall festival.  We concluded paying tribute to Christopher Columbus by having spaghetti and meatballs for dinner.

Anna & Sofia
This weekend was another beautiful one.  We enjoyed the Fairfax Fall Festival yesterday, where Anna got to rock out with Theresa to an 80s band.  Today we took a quick ride (complete with bluegrass music playing) to pick pumpkins at a local farm.  The view was spectacular and there was a large variety of pumpkins.  After much deliberation, we left with too many pumpkins, including a 38-pound jack-o-lantern candidate.  Joe is already plotting his carving masterpiece.

Pumpkin Picking
Halloween is just around the corner.  Both Anna and Theresa are preparing their costumes.  Stay tuned for what is sure be a super funny Halloween.
