Anna's End of the Season

End of Season Pool Party
It is the end of the season for many things right now for Anna, including soccer and daisy scouts. Anna's social calendar was full this weekend with parties for both.

After a very successful season, the Big Purple Balls ended on a rather anti-climatic note with a rain-out.  Thanks to severe storms on Friday night, practice was canceled.  Unfortunately the deluge of rain left the girls' field a swamp, thus no game on Saturday (miraculously the boys' field, which is adjacent to the girl's field, was o.k.  Hmmmm...).  Fortunately, the weather was nice enough for the end of season team party to go on.

Anna's friend Molly hosted a pool party at her house.  This was very brave of Molly's parents on several fronts, not the least of which was having 13 5-6 years olds plus siblings all of differing swimming ability in a pool at one time.  Rather than lounging in the numerous chairs around the yard, parents hovered around the pool (at least those with rookie swimmers did) to serve as lifeguards.  Following swimming and a barbecue (the girls were very impressed with the cheese hotdogs), Coach Tom presented the trophies.  Anna was VERY excited to get her first trophy - a bobblehead soccer girl with Anna's name and "Big Purple Balls" inscribed.  Ah yes....you really can't make this up.

The team mom was kind enough to have a special cake made for Coach Tom to commemorate the season.  A big thanks to Coach Tom for making the season fun and having a very good sense of humor.  Coach Tom even had a parting gift for each team member - a big purple ball of course!

You gotta have a sense of humor to coach this team!
On Sunday, Anna had her final Daisy Scout meeting of the year:  a teddy bear tea party.  The tea party was held at none other than the Fairfax Country Club, so Anna got to put on her fancy dress.  Mom and Dad drove her over thinking this may be the only way they would get into the Fairfax Country Club other than applying for a job there.  She had a great time eating a fancy lunch and making a butterfly mask to take home.  While she was at the party, Joe and Theresa tried to recall when they went to the country club for the first time and decided it was definitely not when they were in kindergarten. Theresa did notice that there was a fundraiser for Obama going on at the country club and pointed out that Democrats frequented country clubs just as much as Republicans.  Anna had many great experiences in Daisy Scouts and looks forward to returning next year!

The weekend concluded with a beautiful evening at the Vienna Town Green for a Blues Concert.

This is the last week of school for Anna.  Stay tuned for more details on kindergarten graduation!
