Biking and Golfing with Emily

Anna has grown and changed quite a bit in recent weeks. One of the things that has changed is her name. She is now Emily-- as in Emily the bossy boiler engine. For those of you not familiar with the activities of the preschool crowd, Emily is one of the trains in the Thomas the Train series. Each train is a character. Mom is now Rosie and Dad is now Tobey. Anna....I mean Emily...is in character at all times and will correct you if you call her Anna (or refer to Joe as something other than Tobey). We are now in week four of living the lives of our alter train egos.

This extends to Ms Be's daycare as well, where all of the kids are also a train as decreed by Anna/Emily and her friend Caitlyn/Emily. Apparently when Caitlyn is at Ms. Be's, she is Emily and Anna is Rosie. When Caitlyn is not there, Anna is Emily. You can see how the power structure works. This is particularly challenging for Ms. Be who now must remember two names for every kid.

Anna/Emily's main activity at home in recent weeks, besides playing with trains, is riding her bike. She has really picked it up and is happy riding around the garage. She is still learning to brake, which is why she is riding in the garage, although we did make several trips around the neighborhood. This past weekend she was joined by her friend Sarah who also is learning to brake, which would explain why we saw Sarah's father running down the hill after her the other day. Anna/Emily and Sarah enjoyed filling their bike baskets with such essentials as ribbons and make-up. You never know when you might need that.

The other event for the weekend was Anna/Emily's first golf outing with her Dad/Tobey. Since Joe spent a couple of days golfing with the guys, he promised Anna/Emily he would take her golfing. True to his word, he took her to the local putt-putt course. At first Anna/Emily requested a princess golf club, but had to settle for a regular kid sized one and a purple ball. She had a great time until they reached the last hole where she had to give up her ball. Apparently there were some tears involved, but Dad negotiated a solution. He took her over to the putting green and let her hit some more balls. Anna/Emily was very excited about the outing and is ready to golf with Dad again.
