Mother's Day at Lincoln's Summer Cottage

After seven straight days of rain in the Greater Washington DC area, the sun finally came out just in time for Mother's Day. Mom decided to take matters into her own hands and planned out the day, which began with mass followed by fresh bagels and coffee for breakfast. While Anna napped, Mom escaped for a luxurious pedicure (never mind the fact that mom immediately stubbed her toe upon returning home, only to mess up her stylish paint job).

After Anna finally awoke, the family headed into DC to visit Lincoln's Summer Cottage, located on the grounds of the Soldier & Airman's home (check it out at http://www.lincolncottage.org/) Mom was intent on visiting the site since it opened to the public for the first time last year. Thinking that surely the newness had worn off by now, the family arrived at 3:45 pm only to find out that not only were there no tickets left, but they would have needed to book tickets a couple of weeks in advance. Instead of touring the house, the family toured the museum instead, walked around the house, and tried to eavesdrop on as much as the tour guide presentation as could be heard from the front porch of the house. The day concluded with a delicious dinner prepared by Dad and a cake that Mom picked up from Victoria's cakery in Fairfax (Mom is always looking for a reason to order a cake. Dad can expect one for Father's Day, as well as returning to the Lincoln Cottage to see the INSIDE of the house).
